What is Pilates?

The Pilates Method is a comprehensive exercise program designed early in the 20th century by German born Joseph H. Pilates. Over a span of 60 years, Pilates and his life partner, Clara, worked to develop and perfect his method of exercise training. Together they created a mind-body-spirit training that works to restore, invigorate, strengthen, and heal the body from the inside out.

Utilizing the exercise equipment designed by Joseph Pilates, like the reformer and cadillac for example, students are challenged to connect their mind with their body and breath to improve their alignment, coordination, circulation and balance while developing deep strength, increased flexibility and graceful movement patterns.
Today the Pilates Method is widely practiced for both its fitness and rehabilitation benefits in hospitals, PT clinics, medical offices, Universities, and private studios around the world.
Personally, I consider pilates a practice of centering my mind with my body through the synchronistic movement of controlled exercises with my breath. It always elevates my spirit, heals what aches and takes me out of the past or the future and drops me right smack dab in the moment. All I know is it rocks... I love it! I have never found any other form of exercise that serves my mind, body and spirit quite like pilates does. It strengthens and elongates my muscles while creating flexibility in my spine and joints. Amazing!
Joseph said it best, "The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning develops the body uniformly, corrects posture, restores vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit."
